Biology Graduate
Student wins Scholarship Award
Tracy Renee Leavy,
a graduate student in Aquatic Biology, was selected as the recipient of
a scholarship award of $5,000, provided by the Women's Sportfishing Foundation,
headquartered in League City, Texas, and Texas State's International Institute
for Sustainable Water Resources. The primary purpose of the Foundation,
established in 1997, is to support educational opportunities which create
awareness for the need to preserve our nation's natural fisheries and
waterways. Ms. Leavy is currently pursuing a Master of Science
degree in Aquatic Biology, under the direction of Dr. Timothy Bonner of
the Texas State Department of Biology. Her thesis topic focuses
on the maximum swimming velocities of stream fishes in Texas and Louisiana,
and its relevance to species persistence and habitat selection through
time.
