Title: Doctoral Instructional Assistant

Location: Department of Biology, Texas State University – San Marcos (Texas)

Description: Texas State University is offering a new, comprehensive doctoral program within the Department of Biology, with the objective of graduating exceptionally trained professionals. Ultimately all biological systems rely on aquatic resources, and this new science-based doctoral program was organized to investigate them from a multidisciplinary perspective. The program seeks highly motivated individuals to undertake research aimed at understanding, describing, and managing such resources from the landscape (lakes, rivers, wetlands, aquifers) to the population, organismal and microbial scale. One of the unique features of this program is to provide its graduates with the background and skills in aquatic resources and related fields to enable them to work skillfully within management and policy arenas, as well as their selected scientific discipline. Because complex issues require solutions from a broad range of fields, this research-emphasis program also integrates the diverse expertise residing in other departments at Texas State, including Agriculture, Chemistry, English, Geography, Health Sciences, Philosophy, and Political Science. Further information on the doctoral program is available on the web site: www.aquaticresources.bio.txstate.edu.

Qualification: M.S. degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Engineering, Health or other natural science relevant to sustainable aquatic resources, an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher in graduate course work, and a preferred GRE score of 1150 or higher (verbal & quantitative combined). Exceptional students with a bachelor's degree or equivalent in these disciplines also will be considered for admission. Additional qualifications are listed on the above-noted aquatic resources web site.

Benefits: Graduate Assistantships, with associated benefits, are available. Resident tuition rates apply for all assistantships.

Application Screening of candidates for the semester will begin February 16 of each year.
